About The Artist
My name is Benjamin Gall, and I’m a Milwaukee native born in 1993. Ever since I was young I had a passion for art. I started out making sketches of cartoon characters, to creating larger than life self portraits. A lot of my love and passion for art came from my parents, who have always created art in some way. My father who is big on photography, and my mother who loves just to be creative in any medium. They have had a major impact on my life, and continue to influence me as I expand as an artist.
Starting out I created art only with a pencil and paper. For years all I would do is draw without experimenting with any other mediums. I wasn’t really exposed to any others until I was shown how to make clay pottery, but once I got to high school I had to quickly get use to the fact that I had to step out of my comfort zone and dive into painting. My artwork really took off after junior year when I entered an intense IB Fine Art course. I was challenged to expand, and through it all I learned a lot about my art and many fine artists throughout history. I started to base my paintings off personal experiences, and who I was as a person began to reflect in my work. I also noticed a theme starting to develop in my work. Throughout most of my works, I tried to depict a subject in different environments, and how that affected them. Two of my favorite artists that have influenced and inspired me are Andy Warhol and Vincent Van Gogh. I love Andy Warhol’s use of color and repetition in all his works, and Van Gogh’s use of movement makes all his work visually interesting. I’ve been inspired by these two artist to create work that catches people’s attention and makes a statement. Continuing in art I know I need to sharpen a lot of my skills and experiment more with different mediums. In the future I want to take my art and possibly go into industrial or commercial design. I would love industrial design, because that way I could use my art to create products that could possibly make a difference in peoples lives.
Art is an important part of my life, and it has allowed me to express my thoughts and ideas on a piece of canvas. I hope to go far in my art career, and continue to create visually interesting pieces of work.
